Grandma Ramblings....
My life has been pretty laid back lately. I've been spending time working in the Neglected-for-Two-Years garden.... I about have the tomato bed ready for planting. I have some pretty good sized potted tomatoes ready to go in. I just need to go out and finish it up. I have cut down the weeds from the other beds, and need to get busy cleaning them up. But, to tell you the truth, the muggyness outside really gets to me. I cannot stand the thick air humidity.... and I get headaches really easily. So, I take it a little at a time.
Last night was fun.... it was Jory's birthday, so we all went to the Royal's game.... watched them lose the 12th game in a row.... disappointing... but they did have alot of good plays, just lost by 1 run. After the game was Fireworks Friday.... fun times. And it was Buck Night.... hotdogs, peanuts & sodas for a buck. Nice....
Merry Maids came on Friday. My house is nice and clean... I like it that way. Am I spoiled??? Probably... but who cares? I've loved being a stay at home mom for 20 plus years, and I worked very hard at it, taking care of the kids, house, husband.... so now, it's my time to enjoy, right? That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
I love Julie's post about Homesteading Moms.... If I lived in that time period, that would have been me. My maternal grandmother was that way, as were her parents. I, too, love reading about that era. Those women worked hard, and knew the value of raising their children & taking care of their homes & husbands. I admire that quality....
Today.... Don is our 4 wheelin' at Deep Water... with Donnie, Timmy & one of Donnie's friends. They're having fun muddin' it up... I'm sure. And Jory is out on a motorcycle ride, borrowing Don's bike.... and also having fun. Dyan went to the Farmer's Market in downtown KC today and is bringing me back a seedless watermelon and some good tomatoes. And later on today, I'll go pick up Christian and he's gonna spend the night with Grandma & Grandpa! Fun times ahead! Dyan & Jory are going to a fish fry in Springhill.... good for them!
Oh, good news! Don was elected to be on our church board! So were alot of other really good people. I feel very excited about the future of our church now. And certain people were not reelected, which is a very good thing. Things are definitely looking up at church. It's great to see the hand of God working through the tough times that we've recently gone through in our church body. I'm so proud of Don for being elected! Woo hoo......
I'm being lazyyyyyyyyy today. It's almost 11 AM and I'm still in my jammies, checking emails... DS, and blogs. I really need to get outside and work on that tomato bed. Then in a bit, I plan to go shopping, to get a way smaller purse I've seen at Coldwater Creek.... then I'm also looking for a tunic length brown tank top. Perhaps I'll go to the mall.... & I need a hat for wearing in the convertible... one that's not a Royal's visor... I need something more fashionable, for wearing when we go to dinner or to church. You know, the kind that the old movie stars would wear while riding in convertibles??? That's me.... LOLOL What a joke!
And that's my life so far....

For a Good Laugh... and an Explanation.... :-P
* You sell your home heating system at a yard sale. (Hot flashes)
* The person you sleep with complains about snow piling up on the bed. (Nightsweats)
* Your husband jokes that instead of buying a wood stove, he is using you to heat the family room this winter. Rather than just saying you are not amused, you shoot him. (Mood swings)
* You write post-it notes with your kid's names on them. (Memory loss)
* Your husband chirps, "Hi honey, I'm home." and you reply, "Well, if it isn't Ozzie freaking Nelson". (Irritability)
* The phenobarbital dose that wiped out the Heaven's Gate Cult gives you four hours of decent rest. (Sleeplessness)
* You find Guacamole in your hair after a Mexican dinner. (Fatigue)
* You change your underwear after every sneeze. (Mild incontinence)
* You need Jaws Of Life to help you out of your car after returning home from an Italian restaurant. (Sudden weight gain)
* You ask Jiffy Lube to put you up on a hoist. (Dryness)
* You take a sudden interest in "Wrestlemania". (Female hormone deficiency)
* You're on so much estrogen that you take your Brownie troop on a field trip to Chippendales. (Hormone therapy)

Weekend Projects
This is the floor where the old shower stall used to be. Don took out the plumbing and is laying new floor down. What a mess!
Another view of where the toilet used to be.
View of the yet-to-be-drywalled walkin shower. He decided to take the wall clear up to the ceiling, with the very top being a whole row of glass blocks. Notice the inserts? That's going to be drywalled around them & tiled over.
Ugh, my poor garden. Two years of neglect. Summer before last, I was in treatments for breast cancer. Then last summer, I was in Europe for 3 weeks and Alaska for 3 weeks, and when I came home, we had whirlwind emotional stuff going on, and so the garden never did get tended to.... What a mess it is right now. This picture is from the perennial bed. Full of sucker trees... I'm cutting them out today and gonna put them thru the shredder.
The vegetable bed... where my salsa garden is supposed to go... Yup, full of weeds. I bought two tomato plants today, Big Boy and will put them in the ground this weekend. I just need to find some grape tomatoes to plant. I'm not going to do the peppers this year, because in the past years when I planted them, the dang bunnies ate them up! Down to the stubs!
Made me so mad!!!
This bed is my perennial flowering shrub bed.... my peonies are about to bloom and my rose bush needs tending to badly. I also have bulbs in that bed and two hydrangeas. Poor neglected bed. Better get to pruning, eh?
SUCKER TREES... they're growing EVERYWHERE!!! I had to buy new lopers today since Dyan bent the last pair I had, trying to cut down these stupid trees! I just want to take everything out next to the fence and till it up and put sod down. Tired of the upkeep...
Entering the poor, neglected garden. Help!!! I need help!!! I'm gonna treat it like the Secret Garden, and untangle all those weeds and let new life breathe into the perennials... Surely there is treasure there.
The Herb Bed. It's overcome with oregano, dill & mint... And there are some rose bushes from last year's children's musical in there somewhere, probably choked to death by those dang weeds... the kind that grow and wind around everything....
Picture of the bathroom from our bedroom. New light sconce.... there will be 2 of them with a black framed mirror inbetween. Lovely...
We're just about ready for paint!
A closer picture of the wall sconce. That cabinet? I'm gonna paint it black & distress it... make it look really old and antiquated.... It will be an "old world" spa-like bathroom. Another view of the sink wall, that 2nd round spot is where the other sconce goes. And he has the plumbing ready for the new sink to go in, once I get the walls painted. The new sink is still in my garage... lol.
Closer pic of the 2 forms that Don installed in the wall of the shower. Don will put tile board up around it & then tile over the whole thing. This is where I'll keep all my stuff to beautify myself...
And that's our life so far....

Pics, Pics and More Pics
My garden is in the background in sore need of attention..... anyone volunteering???? Yet another view of the deck....
Not sure what I did to get these pictures to come out side by side..... probably pushed a wrong button.... :EDIT: When I posted the blog, the pictures came out one on top of the other. Go figure!!! But at any rate..... these are pics of Christian smelling my lilacs which are in full bloom right now and are smellin' up the whole back yard!
Christian is also helping Grandpa grill..... and there are more pics of Christian on the back deck. Enjoy! I just love that little boy.....
My lilacs are in full bloom and I wanted to get some close up pics of them with Christian. I love my gazing ball.... it's on a big stake. Dyan & Jory gave it to me for Mother's Day a few years ago.... I love it. My back yard is so peaceful... I love sitting out there. Christian smelling the lilacs.... I love this pic. It's now set as my wallpaper. So cute... I hope you all enjoyed these pictures of Christian. If you want to keep them on your computer, you can do that easily... just right click & save them.

Monday, Mondayyyyyy....
Girls, if you haven't read Julie's blog lately, you ought to. I truly admire her as a young 20-something mother doing her very best to make her life fulfilling & making sure that her girls are well cared for in every way. She's smart, knows her own mind, and truly gives from her heart to her family. She's like one of those old fashioned mothers who makes everything from scratch.... LOL I love reading about it.... entertaining & fascinating. And I think that she'd be great friends with both Dyan & Meghan... you guys are all about the same age.
***
Today.... what to do today? I think I'll try and get in for my pedicure today. It's been a month and I'm badly in need of one. Since I wear my sandals all the time, I need to make sure my toes are lookin' good. I also need to buy some more makeup from Merle Norman... and go by the office supply store to get some more file folders and boxes to store old files in.
***
Did you watch Desperate Housewives last night? Crazy.... hilarious.... weird.
***
I need to reclean the kitchen this morning... toss a load of laundry in. And I suppose I'll make it to the grocery store today too.... I think that Dyan & Christian are coming over for dinner. Jory is working in S. Dakota this week for us...
***
This week, the goals will be to finish organizing my office & to work in the garden and get it back into shape. Also, still working on the 5K... gonna go sign up for 24 hr. fitness today.
***
Had alot of fun yesterday.... drive the little yellow convertible to church. Also followed the motorcycle riders from our church to another church for an outdoor concert by LCF.... totally fun. Got sunburnt... Note to self: keep sunblock in the glove compartment of the little yellow convertible.
***
Last night, we went to church to hear some important announcements, and the service went WAY long.... so we missed Brandi's graduation. Didn't get out of church until after 7:30.... Thought we'd be able to leave earlier and get there just a little late. Oh well....
***
Nothing much else really to talk about... it just feels good to be free and happy.... I'm happy. Life is good right now.

Musical Pics
Okay, pics...
"David, King Saul & Israelite Soldiers"
"Choir 1 Dancers"
"David" wearing King Saul's armor.
***
We certainly had a lot of fun putting this musical together. I had a top-notch cast & crew to work with.... I'm one very lucky choir director. Our big Choir 3 Annual BBQ is this Saturday at mi casa.... Fun will be had by all. We will grill dogs, have fresh veggies, chips, soda, ice cream sundaes, & hot tub time. We'll also have the X-Box 3 going in the living room, and we'll also watch a video of our performance. I'm looking forward to it. I love having fun with "my kids".

Monday.... After the Show
The musical performance yesterday was quite smashing.... the kids were incredible. But my favorite part of the whole thing was the pre-musical performance time in the choir room - talking about the "Giants" in their lives, and how the Lord helps them overcome it. I shared about my having cancer - a GIANT in my life, and how the Lord helped me overcome it.... And I shared about Don's being falsely accused of federal crimes and having to go to a trial, and how the Lord brought us through that.... because that was a GIANT in our lives. The kids all shared, one at a time, the giants in their lives, and how the Lord was helping them through it. I heard about illnesses, divorcing parents, that sort of thing... for me, it was a very significant time in our choir weekend.
After our performance we had a reception.... and it was tons of fun. Hugs were had by all... We got outta there by 8:30.... came home and had a sandwich & chips and watched a little TV before crashing in bed.
***
This morning, I gotta get cleaned up, go to my piano lesson, the bank, the grocery store & get ready for my Cinco de Mayo party tonight. ALL of my kids are coming over!!! YAYYYYYYYYY.... Tostada bar & margaritas.... Yum...
***
I also gotta get the final tallys done on the honor beads for the choristers crosses that the kids have earned. Tomorrow, Meg & I will string the beads and be ready for our Awards Ceremony on Wednesday.
***
You know, I have a hard time letting a post go without a picture of Christian. So, I copied it from Jenny's post & Dyan's post.... and here they are. Isn't he adorable??? MMmmmm I just wanna squeeze on him!
#2 - waving "HI" from his new wheels...

It's Finally Here!!!
Today is our 3 PM Matinee.... Call time for the kids is 1:30 - for those who are wearing wireless mics, and 1:45 for everyone else. We'll do a quick sound check, and then go back to the choir room for costumes, hair & makeup. After that, we will have "connect" time, where we will talk about the significance of this musical, what it means to them, and we will pray. We will get into our lineup orders at 2:55 and head to the gym.
Tomorrow morning, kids have to be at church by 8:30 - we are singing in the morning worship service, and will need to do a soundcheck at 9. We are singing two songs from the musical: "Our God is Great!" for a call to worship, and "My God Is" for the offertory. Fun times.
Then tomorrow night, we have a 6 PM performance followed by a reception & striking the set. Big day tomorrow.
Monday - I think we'll have a Cinco de Mayo celebration in honor of Don's being released from probation! Woo hooooooooo! Did you kids even remember that your dad's year was up on April 26th? Thank the Good Lord that THAT whole chapter in our lives is finished!
Well, I just finished giving myself a manicure.... I'm all ready to go. Got my black traveler pants on, my "rock slinger" t=shirt, which is boldly yellow, a color which does NOT suit me at all, but which my choir 3 kids chose, and I'll wear a weekender jacket over it... solid black. Slimming?? I hope so.
Gotta run~ And that's my life so far....
