Okay, round 1 is finished..... Jason - same ole' same ole' BORING.
Brooke - also boring.... I cannot believe she's still in this thing.
Sayesha - loved it. Definitely the best vocals of any female in the contest.
David Cook - wow. Great!
David Archuletta ~ again, another great performance.
Paula ??? What, is she on drugs or something? She has no clue as to what is happening on this show.... What a goofball.... dufus.... I think she's been drinking...
Round 2 is coming up.....
Oh and this is Neil Diamond night..... LOVE LOVE LOVE him..... I went to one of his concerts for a birthday in LA.... it was FABULOUS. Loved him in The Jazz Singer..... loved that movie. Fabulous.
Okay, waiting for round 2... oh, sheesh, I recorded it.... I can FF thru the commercials - what a goof!
Okay, Jason Castro~ I just wish he'd do something upbeat and really let his vocals rip!!! Always the soft, mushy stuff.... He's not worthy of winning this thing. So sorry if you like him..... but he does have great teeth. :=) Boring song... if you ask me. Randy is right. Just an Okay performance.... not the best. Paula's critique - she's right.... he's too safe. He has to step it up. Simon is right too.... forgettable....
Up next: (Don's working and I'm bored, can ya tell???) David Cook: Love this guy. He's from the KC area.... and one of my favs. I don't know this song.... Oh, I love it! He's a classic rocker dude. I could be his mother, ya know??!! Fantastic. What do the judges say??? Randy - Yo.... check it out baby.... rofl... blazing.... great! Paula~ proud of him.... she thinks he will win. I do too.... Simon~ brilliant! Totally agree with him!!! You go David! Smart & well done. My vote is for David Cook.
Up next: Brooke White ~ She should have been eliminated a LONG time ago.... but thanks to VFTW.com, she's still here. (Vote for the Worst) Her voice is just amateurish.... she sounds like she has vocal nodules. She needs vocal therapy, in my opinion.... Okay, what do the judges say? Randy~ He says nice job.... I don't really agree. Paula? she's too mushy.... she liked her. Ugh... Simon~ hated the first song. He liked this one though.... behind the piano. Well done, he says. I hope she doesn't pass thru to next week.... either she or Jason need to go.
Up next: David Archuletta~ Pure voice. Young, but great vocals. I wasn't crazy about his rendition of "America"... Love it when Neil sings it. Randy thinks it was another good performance. Paula thinks it's the perfect song for him to sing. She love him - he's brilliant. Simon~ Smart choice of song. Check, check, check, very good.
Up next: Syesha~ (one of my favs) "Thank the Lord for the Nighttime"... She's great.... Love that she sings barefoot. Cool.... Oh, she can hit those notes! Great job!!! Woo hoo........ loved it. Randy~ Yo, alright, so yo.... she's in the zone.... broadway style... he likes it. Paula~ vulnerable, beautiful, performance theatre.... great! Simon~ Strangest show, he says. A bit chaotic. She's a good actress / singer. He thinks however, she may be in trouble tonight. I do NOT agree.... Why? He doesn't think she had a really memorable 2nd song, like some of the others did tonight. I do NOT agree at all....
Okay, who will be gone tomorrow? My hope is Jason or Brooke.... I think the final two will be the two Davids.
I know, I know... I need to get a life! LOL
And that's my life so far~~~

Grandma Plaskett's Chocolate Icing Recipe
HAPPY 23RD BIRTHDAY MEGHAN RENEE' !!! Dad & I are so grateful that the Lord gave you to us!!! We love you more than you can imagine, and are so proud of the woman that you have become. It's great seeing you all grown up & on your own... Totally satisfying as a parent to see your child so successful. We could not be more proud of you than we are today. So, celebrate your life!!!
Now, on to the rest of this blog entry:
This recipe is a Plaskett Family recipe.... on it's fourth generation now, being my girls. Everyone always asks about this recipe, so here it is! It is so yummy, a cross between a glaze & frosting. I've been making this recipe for almost 30 years, but the only thing is, that if you cook it too long, and put it on a cake, it will peel off like rubber, so says Grandma Plaskett, my MIL. Apparently she has done that a few times. I never have.... LOL
This is a half recipe.... to be used on a 9 x 13 cake. If you want to frost a layer cake, then double this recipe.
In a saucepan, mix:
1/2 cup of sugar
1 heaping Tablespoon of good quality cocoa
1/2 cup of hot water
1/8 teaspoon of salt
Mix thoroughly (I used my whisk) and slowly bring to a boil. In the meantime,
Put 1 heaping tablespoon of cornstarch in a little bowl, and add just enough cold water to make it kinda thin.
Once the cocoa mixture has come to a boil, turn the fire down & slowly add the cornstarch mixture. Continually stir until the icing reaches a consistency of kinda thin pudding. Turn off the fire.
Add 1/2 stick of unsalted butter & 1 1/2 teaspoon of good quality vanilla. Stir.
Set the pan aside to cool down. Stir it every once in a while. Ice the cake when it's cooled down.
Eat & enjoy!!!

VERY quick update...
Thanks for the sweet comments, Julie.... and yes, I'd love to have a big dog, and I told Don what you said, and he said, and I quote, "I'm all the big dog you'll ever need!!!" ROFL
Rehearsal today was MUCH improved! It's amazing what difference a few microphones can make! LOL I am feeling very calm about the musical right now. It's going very well. I love my kids; they are the BEST!
Meg's birthday is tomorrow.... my baby is turning 23. Ugh....... does that make me older too? I got her something special for her birthday, but I won't say here, since she probably will read this blog pretty soon.
I did my secret shopping at Coldwater Creek this afternoon. Got a new skirt, a black sweater shell, and a mint green cardigan. Lovely outfit.... but very $$$. Oh well........ I really need more church clothes... Can't go to church in my capris! LOL
I took 6 swings at a car today with a sledge hammer. $5 would buy you 3 swings. I bought 3 swings, and Don bought $50 worth.... that's alot of sledgehammer swings. It's for our teen youth group - 30 hour famine thing.... the money goes to fighting hunger in Malawi.... great cause. It was totally fun, doing that. People on State Line probably thought we were nuts, beating up a BMW like that! LOL I bashed out the headlights & the back window... and then beat in the fenders. And I pulled a muscle.... go figure! But, fun was sure had by me!!!
Don & I are heading to the Royals Stadium in a few minutes. Going to the game... gonna eat a hot dog. Who cares???
And that's my life so far.....

Random Thoughts...
1. I think that Choir 1, pre-K & K dancers need to sit on the smaller stage during that number. I think it will be easier for them, and it will allow the 1st graders to be seen doing their jazz dance. Gotta talk to Meg about it, and make sure it's okay with her.
2. We need 4 more choir mics. Jeff will take care of that.
3. We need the powerpoint thingy that hangs from the ceiling to be FIXED so that the words can be reflected onto the back wall.... the kids need it, and so do I.
4. I'm gonna ask Shelly & Karen to be in charge of costuming the kids. Guess we'll get them dressed in the choir room, and then wheel the rack down to the hallway outside of the gym for after our performances. Sounds like a plan.
5. I want a big dog... a mean looking one, that I can take on walks with me, for safety reasons. Don will never go for it, tho....
6. I love springtime. Love having the windows open and the attic fan on.... and no other noises in the house, except for the click click click of my typing on the laptop....
7. I like how Don rearranged our furniture. My chair now sits in front of the open window.... Love it!
8. My kitchen looks like a tornado swept thru it.... haven't cleaned it in 2 days.... ugh!
9. Cali almost got eaten by two big dogs while on our walk / jog this morning. Poor kid.... she was crying. Then for the rest of our walk, she kept looking back at me with those sad eyes that said "Mom, you still there? You gonna protect me???" Poor kid...
10. I admire my friend, Julie, who I met on a specialized website.... She lives in Colorado and has two adorable little girls. She's fighting a battle right now, physically, and my heart aches for her. And I admire her. Totally. Pray for Julie.
11. I really need to straighten up this house. The cleaning ladies are coming tomorrow....
12. I need to get into the garden. It's a mess right now. I need some muscles, and a rototiller. We're gonna take out one of our large beds, the one near the house and the hot tub, and gonna lay sod down. Forget those big beds. What, was I crazy??? We have WAY too many flowerbeds.... It looked pretty when the landscaper put them in, but heck, they are too much work!!! And let's not even talk about the "garden".... Oy Vey.... there is so much work to do out there.... gonna redo those beds too, make them raised.... haul in new dirt, totally redo the garden.
13. I hope our rehearsal on Saturday goes better than last night.... sheesh!!! What a disaster! The kids were so distracted.... I mean, wouldn't you be if you saw this crazy guy going up and down on a lift, stretching to the ceiling of the gym??? Like 4 or 5 times??? And the tech crew was trying to fix the powerpoint and set lights, and they were chatting TOO LOUD back there.... totally distracting the kids. I cannot have that again..... ugh.... calming down. LOL
14. I just looked at my hair... talk about a disaster!!! Way too much gray is showing thru.... and it needs to be trimmed up. Dyan???
15. I'm going "secret shopping" on Saturday afternoon, after rehearsal. Coldwater Creek sent me another $50 gift card. Gotta use it by the 28th. What fun!
16. Sent out the e-invites to the Choir 3 BBQ at my house on May 17th. It's our annual event.... and the kids always enjoy it. Lots of work, tho....
17. I have a stress headache..... I need a massage.
18. Don was nominated to be on our church board. Yay! I hope he gets elected.... because he'd be great on the board. Whip them into shape!!! LOL
19. My stage looks great!!! It's very simple this year.... and the artificial rocks / boulders, are GREAT!!! And my spraypainting the ladders turned out quite well, thank you very much! I love the simplicity of our set this year. Much, much easier than in years past.
20. Gotta get busy.... laundry is calling my name, and so is my kitchen. Not to mention, figuring out something for dinner, altho we had a late lunch, at The Peanut, and I could only eat half of my hamburger & fries. Don finished them for me.... lol.

Beauty the Huntress....
Okay, so this is going to be really gross, so be forwarned.... if you have a weak stomach, turn off the computer right now, and walk away....
So, last night, just before going to bed, I was turning off lights, and in the dining room, Beauty was eating something, and she looked up at me, and had two little feet sticking out of her mouth. And there were spots of blood on my NEWLY SHAMPOOED carpet!!! I said, "Beauty, DROP IT" And she dropped it, and Cali, hunkered down close by, quickly grabbed it up and out the door she went! I couldn't believe it.... I could only surmise that it was a poor little baby bunny...
Okay, then this morning, at dawn, I heard Beauty downstairs with this strange meow going on, the kind where you know she's caught a mouse. I ignored her.... & tried to sleep. When I finally got up, I went downstairs to let Cali outside, and in the dining room... I could NOT believe it.... LOTS more blood & other stuff... probably guts. She had caught another one! Nothing was in the house, tho...
After our big day full of church, rehearsals, sewing, set painting, Don & I went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner, and then came home. The curious side of me got the best of me, and I ventured into the back yard to see if there were any dead baby bunnies.... YUP, there were TWO of them! One just had it's lower legs & the other one was HEADLESS......... poor little things. Cali tried snatching it up again.... How gross is that. Don picked up those dead baby bunnies and tossed them away, so Cali & Beauty wouldn't keep eating on their poor dead carcuses (sp?) I figure Beauty must have found a bunny nest....
Dyan's take on it all is that at least they didn't grow big enough for Jory to run over with the lawn mower. He sees poofs of fur when he does.... That is just gross too....

Old Age = Forgetfulness
Yes, I'm losing my mind.
Yesterday, prime example.
Got up, did my workout / neighborhood walk (training, remember???), then came home and had breakfast. Made my hot tea... got my shower, started working on kcc, got my t-shirt order together, went and ran errands.... 1) to the t-shirt graphics place to approve the graphic & place my order 2) to the petstore to get dog & cat food 3) to Merle Norman to get some more stuff I needed & 4) to the grocery store & did BIG shopping... haven't done that in about a month. Then I came home, unloaded everything, (love my big cloth bags), made my lunch, yes that was at 4:00 PM, and got ready for Dyan, Jory & Christian to arrive. They came over last night, because Jory thought he was gonna help Don in the bathroom. What he really wanted is some of the wiring, so he can use it in his basement! LOL But, the deal was, Don was working on our taxes last night, and wasn't planning on working in the bathroom. So, Dyan brought over a chicken pot pie, and I made a salad & cut up fruit, and we had a nice time. Christian, as always, was a little dollface. (Can you call a little boy a dollface and get away with it???) Then my tummy troubles returned, and I felt horrible. Dyan & Jory & Christian left around 8, and I'm sitting here vegging in front of the TV watching Dancing With the Stars... and all of a sudden, I'm struck with this awful feeling.... I asked Don, "What day is it???" I know, I know..... and he said, "Monday." And UGHHHHHHHH I realized that I forgot to go to my piano lesson!!! Sheesh, and I've been playing so much lately! I couldn't believe I forgot my lesson once again! And I love going to my lessons! I love chatting with Paula!!! And we even get in about 10 minutes of playing time! LOL
Yes, I'm getting forgetful in my old age..... and I"m only 50!!!! How scary is that?
And that's my life so far...

Baseball, the Great American Pasttime
Okay... so tonight, Don & I went back to the ballpark to watch the Royals play the Yankees... Oh, but before that, we went to the Peanut for a drink with the boys before heading to the ballpark. There were thunderstorms all about us this afternoon, got hailed on twice. And that was BEFORE we went to the stadium.
Anyway, we made it to the ballpark, only to be shuffled clear around the ballpark parking lot.... I swear those attendants need to get their freakin' act together! Sheesh.... but we finally parked up close, and got into the stadium. The skies looked ominous... We got our hotdogs & water, and settled into our seats. We do have great seats, right behind 1st base. Well, about 4 1/2 innings into the game, the grounds crew came running out to cover up the field, and we're like, "What???".... and then people got up and started heading for the inside part of the stadium.... and Don said, let's put the ponchos on, and we no more got them on than it started RAINING and HAILING on us!!! ROFL.... what an experience. Ten minutes later, it was all clear again! But while the rain was coming down, there was this obnixious drunk guy in the section next to us, without any shirt on, and singing at the top of his lungs, and yelling at them to get the @#$%% game back on..... Well, finally, security came, because that guy was getting really obnixious and foul mouthed!!!! Everyone cheered when security came, and hauled his arse outta there. Did I mention that he was a YANKEES FAN??? ROFL.
So, we made it thru a couple more innings, and the Donmeister pooped out.... so we headed out at the top of the 7th. We're losing. No sweep for us this time. You oughtta seen everyone with their brooms tonight! Too funny..... But we're losing big time. A-Rod just hit a homerun.... right now it's 6 to 1 NY. Sucks.
And that's my life so far....
p.s. I need some Christian time!!!
Sick Cat...
My cat, Beauty, the one with FIV, the equivalent of HIV, only in cats, is sick. She's peeing blood... and constantly cleaning her wahoo.... I'm taking her to the vet today... probably has a urinary tract infection. I swear, this cat has lived MORE than her given 9 lives.... She's 16 years old now.... should have died several times by now.... what a will to live this little baby has... She was left for dead by her mother when a week or so old, abandoned on a construction site in San Fran. We took her in, nursed her back to health.... I bottle fed her, and wiped her butt, did this every 2 hours during the first month of her life. This cat, we decided, would be Meg's, since Dyan already had a cat, and I had the dog. Makes sense.... Beauty loves Meg. Anyway.... the cat got well, then we moved to Kansas. Three days later, she ran away, started going back to California. Three months later, a farmer found her and called a shelter, where we'd left her description when she first ran away.... and sure enough, she was our cat!!! The coyotes didn't get her! She survived an October snow storm. No injuries.... just had dropped over half of her body weight. We kept her locked in the basement from then on, 'til we moved to Missouri. Since being here, she has never run away. She loves to play outside, and the neighbors cat got into a fight with her, and therefore she got FIV. What is it about living beings having fights and getting HIV??? or FIV??? Sheesh..... That was almost 4 years ago. She's been doing well, except for her hyperthyroidism, and she takes 2 pills a day for that. Now, she's bleeding pee.... poor kid. Gotta get her to the vet today. Sometimes, I just wish her heart would give out. I hate having to make a decision to put the babies down....
Yesterday was fun. Opening Day at Royal's Stadium. It will always be Royals Stadium to me, not Kauffman Stadium. Anyway, we played the Yankees.... and won!!! 5 to 2. Woo hoo! They are doing renovations on the stadium... and we have this GIANT screen scoreboard, largest in the world, they say. Hi Def too.... and it's very cool! Loved it! The only thing bad about yesterday was that it was so freakin' cold!!!! I spent $50 on a Royals blanket, and it was worth every penny! It was cloudy, misting, and windy, with a windchill in the low 30's. We were freezing! Who went? Me, Don, Timmy & Josh. Our company bought season tickets this year.... great seats too.... down behind 1st base, field level. All I need is a ball park hotdog & a diet coke and I'm a happy camper. I love to watch the games.... Fun was had by all.....
After dropping the boys off at the office, Don & I went to On the Border and had some dinner.... I ate part of mine..... had 1 too many margaritas... lol. Since I hadn't eaten much that day, it sorta went right to my head. Silly me.... Then we came home and promptly fell asleep in our comfy leather chairs. Next thing I knew, it was 11:30.... ugh....
Today is choir day.... lots of work to do. Gotta get busy.
And that's my life so far....
UPDATE: Just returned from the vet. Apparently Beauty has a full blown urinary tract infection or bladder infection. This is a result of her having Feline AIDS. Poor Beauty.... So, she was given an antiobiotic shot, and 3 weeks worth of oral antibiotics. Twice a day for 3 weeks. It sucks having AIDS.

New Goal.... Don't Laugh!!!
I'm SERIOUS.... I have a new goal. And I need encouragement.
Goal: To run the 5K Race for the Cure this year - in August.
The last 2 years, I walked the 1K with my family. This year... I want to run it. I mean, I want to run the 5K. Who's up for running with me???
It's like a job. Every day I need to get my arse out of bed and either walk the neighborhood or go to the gym and get on the treadmill or elliptical. Five days a week, at least. And when I start walking for several weeks, I need to start integrating running, because, ya know... I had that surgery in January that will allow me to run with out, well, ya know.... nevermind! LOL
Anyway... I need to shed 70 lbs... and I am a breast cancer survivor, and what better way to get in shape than to prepare for the 5K and run in honor of my mom, who lost the battle with breast cancer after 4 years of heroically fighting it.
So, Mom??? Nudge me on, okay??? I know you're somehow here with me, and you can encourage me to do this. Okay??? Okay. You are my guardian angel, the one who allowed my cancer to be caught so early. So, together, we can do this.
Yeah, I know.... I'm weird. I'm a dork. There, I said it! ROFL

A Springtime Cold
Ugh.... I have a head cold. It's freakin' April and I have a head cold. Ugh.... I tried washing out my sinuses with this really weird thing, a squeeze bottle with some solution in it that you squeeze into one side of your nose, and the water eventually comes out the other side. Yup, it's weird, but it works ~ sorta. I'll take a Advil PM in a few minutes so that I'll be able to sleep with a stuffed head. Ugh....
I even cancelled Merry Maids today, cause I just didn't have the energy to pick up around here before they came. Instead, I lounged around in the morning, drinking tea and trying to find some energy. Then spent the afternoon working on choir stuff... i.e. t-shirt orders, production staff, choir awards, and writing and answering lots of emails. Choir.... that's my entire life for the next month or so. Then the musical will be a memory, and I'll have 3 1/2 months off before the startup of the new choir year.
I wish it would warm up around here. And I wish I felt better.
I need a grandson fix....

Okay, I'm "Normal" Again...
Okay, I am FINALLY feeling "normal" again. My blues lately have been related to hormones, I suppose. I got my little visitor today, "Tom", so now I'm all better! I just never know these days when Tom will be visiting. Sometimes he goes 6 months without a peep from him... and sometimes it's 6 weeks. Oh, the joys of my friend, "Tom".
Tom's visit, AND being back on Zoloft. Life doesn't get much better than this! I just thought I'd let you all know that I haven't cried once today, and I'm handling life much better right now. LOLOL I have a better grip on life's situations. It's amazing what hormones can do to ya!
Okay, I cannot let a post go, hardly at all, without a picture of my grandson, Christian Michael Swim. This is a pic that Dyan has on her blog, and so, since I have a new laptop, and haven't downloaded my pics yet, one of Dyan's pics will have to suffice.
***
Okay, so this is Christian's "trick". Funny thing, Dyan used to do this "trick" too... and I have the pictures to prove it!
Pictures of Christian doing chalk art & investigating the power source for his patio!!!
And that's my life so far...
